Finding The Scene

How easy is it to find The Local Music Scene here on Florida's West Central Gulf Coast? It can be as simple as walking out the door and finding your way to the local bar on a Friday or Saturday night... it can be part of a trip to the beach...motorcyclists can find it on any given weekend by showing up mid-day at one of our local Harley Davidson dealerships and lots of us can find it during the finest of weather at one of the MANY festivals hosted in our outdoor spaces. But finding THE BAND you want to catch at a place you WANT to hang out on a day and time that you have available can be a matter of deep-dive investigation of social media postings - which I find to be cumbersome to navigate! On Facebook, I "follow" my favorite musicians, band, venues, and festivals... that enables a simpler "search" thru "events" on that site. I also join local-music related groups and follow pages but THOSE can be a confusing cluster of FUTURE gigs and hard to find HAPPENING TONIGHT/THIS WEEKEND gigs. Go Tonight does a good job of showing us where/who/when but I find that I don't use their website as often as I should, despite it's relative ease-of-use! Ugh. Arghh. Winding River Promotions wants to offer local live music fans something simpler. I'm working on it. Stay tuned....

What does it mean to be a promoter? According to music.careers.com, Promoters do just what their name suggests -they promote live shows. But more than just promoting the show, promoters also organize shows and book the bands. The basic duties of a promoter are to secure a venue for a show, promote the show via the media, work with the bands, sponsors, vendors and others to make sure all the show needs are covered (PA system, lighting, safety, vendors, etc.) and ensure that it is a good, well organized event. Some promoters put on shows for the love of it and actually end up spending more than they make. Winding River Promotions' business model focuses on putting together musical events which are a win-win for everyone involved. If attendees, musicians, venue owners, vendors and sponsors all walk away saying "wow, what a great time!", then we've done our job.
